WODdoc Episode 353 Project365: Interval Training For Beginners
Training hard is a relevant term. Perceived exertion is subjective. An athlete can be trying really really hard but still be working at a low intensity level. The purpose of training in intervals in simple. By taking short breaks it gives time for recovery and thus will allow the “work” of the workout to be performed at an increased intensity level.
Picture the example of running 1 mile vs sprinting 12 one-hundred meter sprints separated by periods rest. Both have the same work load but the intensity level is increased when broken into intervals. If you were to try and hold your sprinting pace for one complete mile you would soon find it impossible.
We will talk more in the future about interval training but for now its important we know the concept and what we are trying to accomplish.
